How to Take Care of Your Skin While on Accutane ?

Accutane is a form of vitamin A. It reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin, and helps your skin renew itself more quickly.

A skin care routine should be followed while using this strong medication.

The following are some useful tips I found really effective while being on Accutane.

- Be sure to use clean washcloths. After use, wash in hot soapy water before reuse to prevent the spread of bacteria.

- Be sure to apply moisturizer and foundation in the direction of the little hairs on the skin. Generally, this means in strokes away from the nose.

- Lip Balm is your savior. Blistex is good for when lips are already chapped and Vaseline to prevent chapping.

- Contact users may experience discomfort from dry eyes. It may be prudent to stock up on artificial tears.

- When using a towel, pat, 'Do Not rub'.

- The time for exfoliation is when the skin is warm, wet and protected by a layer of Cetaphil.

- Drink plenty of water, as Accutane will dry you out.

- Take your Accutane pill with milk. The fat in the milk helps your body better absorb the medication.

- Stick to a routine. The more regular your skin care regimen, the more success you'll have with it.

- Forget all the 'deep cleansing' acne washes. They'll be way too harsh on your skin while on Accutane.

- Neutrogena Lip Boost works better for dry lips.

- And things you need:

  • Vaseline.
  • Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser.
  • Vitamin E Sink-In Moisture Mask. This intense non-greasy moisturizer will supplement your daily moisturizer.
  • Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel.
  • Vichy Thermal Spa Water (in spray form) to soothe red skin after washing and use throughout the day.
  • Tea Tree Oil Blemish Fade Night Lotion. (applied at night to minimize acne scarring)Nivea Face Creme.
  • Face cloths.
